OT? - Not counting the savings rate, US does not look very bad. Yeah, housing is a big chunk, but that's to be expected, since housing is one of the industries that cannot be outsourced to cheap regions. So even without a bubble the price to build a house using local labor is very high (anecdotally, the insurance calculated cost to rebuild my house in case of fire is higher than its price on the market... and if they used "good" materials, it's even higher... :/ ). Transportation could be reduced. I was surprised that healthcare is comparable to other countries. I guess the only reason Americans think it is expensive is because 5% of American earnings is much higher absolute amount than 5% of Russian/Indian/Chinese earnings. Would be fun to see one or two European countries and maybe Japan too for comparison.
