In the movie Christopher Columbus, there is a scene where the Spanish conquerors are collecting taxes from the local savages on an island in the Caribbean Sea.
During the scene, the savages are obediently lined up, holding items deemed valuable in their culture, and waiting their turn to present the required levies to the tax collectors seated at the table.
As the line slowly advances, an unusually poor savage eventually reaches the table. It is immediately discovered that he doesn't have what is deemed the "proper payment". Consequently, one of the Spanish henchmen promptly pulls out a sword and brutally cuts of his hand above his wrist.
Such events occurred nearly 600 years ago, but what has changed between then and now? Seriously. What has changed?
Oh, sure, the government doesn't send over a henchman to cut your hand off if you don't pay your levies, but they will send over armed agents of the state to abduct you at gunpoint, lock you in a steel cage, and take your possessions by force if you do not produce what they demand. -ng-
Bottom line: You work. You Pay. Bernanke and friends take your money and laugh at you.
Did you earn record profits last year? The U.S. central bank did. -ng-
When will people wake up? Too many have slumbered through all of recorded history!
Regarding the clownbuck, it is simply another item deemed valuable in their culture...for now. -ng- |
