i'm convinced the only way to stop this kind of crony 'capitalism' is to boycott the companies like GE, GM, Chrysler, Chase, Citi, Goldman Sachs, BofA, and insurers that were bailed out via AIG (and AIG itself of course)

Unless I am not recalling well I believe that the country made money on the bank bailout. There are many reasons not to like a bank other than this.

The GM, Chrysler and bailout of some others I agree. The shareholders and investors got screwed as did the taxpayers and the unions which contributed strongly to the predicament of GM were give substantial ownership. I doubt we will see the return on the "bailout investment" of these companies. And I am sure they would not have gone away - at worse case bankruptcy and reorg like the airlines do. But this smacked to me a gift to the unions.
