No way will notebooks ever replace a laptop. I use my laptop for everything. I mean everything; from web site development to stock trading, all kinds of job related activities and yes basic web surfing and e-mail. I typically have anywhere from 6 to 20 plus windows open. You cannot do that on a tablet because you don't yet get a powerful enough processor or anywhere near enough DRAM. The only thing I don't do on a laptop is games. I have had an iPAD to play with and color me totally unimpressed. Until they have much more processing power I will never buy a tablet rather than a notebook. In the long run the merging of technologies will allow for a consumer to buy whatever fits their budget and needs. The sad truth is that right now most smart phones do as much or more than a tablet. For the money a laptop definitely trumps a tablet and a PC a laptop. But today's tablets are mere toys in comparison. They will get better. Bottom line it does not matter much anyhow. We all have our own personal favorites and good reasons for them. In the long run we will be more invested in the chip companies and chip equipment manufacturers than the actual sellers of tablets, notebooks, smart phones or PC's. So who cares? RtS
