Meanwhile, Citigroup analyst Kevin Dennean today writes that the announcement reinforces his choice of Ciena as his top telecom equipment stock. The announcement of deployment by Verizon starting in Q2 is “a bit earlier than we believe many had expected.” He notes that the U.S. network appears to be modeled along the same lines as the European network portion that’s also using Ciena’s gear. That may mean that Verizon “should by now be highly familiar and confident in the Ciena system/architecture,” which in turn sets up “the possibility for more extensive deployments in North America.” Today’s announcement “may mark a turning point for improved North American spending in optical,” he argues. blogs.barrons.com
