Eclair is open, Froyo is open, Gingerbread is open. And Honeycomb is open. Google just wants to fix certain areas of the Honeycomb API that they took some shortcuts on to get it out early. If Google was to release that out there it would end up being one giant mess of a nightmare to support and try and retain any sort of compatibility with future versions. As Google already said, they are trying to fix those areas and will release the open source when that is done (my guess is sometime in the summer as version 3.1). Even Google said as much. Anyone in the media who is trying to make a big deal out of this has their own agenda... and that's usually Apple's agenda.
