It is uncomfortable for people who have not yet been born again to consider, that though Eve was deceived, both Adams, male and female, sinned. Our imperfect justice system might let Eve off the hook, but the fact is, that whatever her excuse was, she did what she shouldn't have done.
We've all heard that "ignorance of the law is no excuse", uncomfortable though that consideration is. I'm sure you understood this already, though.
Have you read the science fiction trilogy by C.S. Lewis? Out of the Silent Planet, Perelandra, and That Hideous Strength? The first two deal with the theme of original sin, in an original way.
