Anyone in the media who is trying to make a big deal out of this has their own agenda...

There are actually 2 issues being raised by this media. One is that Google has refused to opensource Honeycomb and probably never will (Rubin said the version ice Cream *might* be the one that is opensourced). Sure, that might be justified, even if it sets an ugly precendent.

The second issue, the one raised in Business Week, is that Google purports to be discouraging partners from customizing even the open sourced versions of Android. If Google needs to bless anything that manufacturers do with Android, that's de facto closed, and manufacturers are de facto licensees. it would mean that Android is not open, plain and simple.

You can choose to either not believe those rumors, or decide that it doesn't matter to you whether Android is open or not.
