think that if you look at the countries that are in real trouble today, they are countries where the population is static or declining and age balance is getting way out of whack upward, or they’re countries that are so poor and they have so many young people that they can’t educate. America has been in about the right place. One of the reasons for the growth and the power of the American economy is that the birthrate of . . . native-born Americans and the immigration rate together has given us a growing population not so fast we can’t take care of it, not so slow the economy stagnates.
