GroupWise 5 Garners Broad Industry Support

Customers,OEMs, Systems Integrators and Third-Party Developers Leverage GroupWise's
Power, Openness and Scalability for Mission-Critical Applications

NEW YORK -- Sept. 12, 1996 -- Novell, Inc. today demonstrated widespread industry support from customers
and partners for GroupWise 5, Novell's premier intranet application and extended E-mail system. At a milestone
launch event, customers implementing mission-critical GroupWise 5 solutions, OEMs bundling GroupWise 5 with
their products, systems integrators and consultants who create and recommend customized GroupWise 5 solutions,
and third-party developers who anticipate significant customer demand for GroupWise 5-reliant products, took the
stage to outline their support for GroupWise 5.

Among those publicly stating their support and discussing mission-critical GroupWise applications are customers,
including Kansas University Medical Center, Prince William County Schools and Red Rock Brewing Company;
and partners, including Compaq, IBM, US Connect, Fujitsu and BDM. In addition to those supporters speaking on
stage, eight GroupWise development partners will demonstrate an array of application solutions that work with
GroupWise. Those partners include CallWare Technologies, Cheyenne Software, Information Builders, PUMA
Technology, Quarterdeck Corp., Synaxis Corp., TimeLine Solutions Corp. and WhetStone Technologies.

"Response to the release of GroupWise 5 has been astounding, and confirms to Novell that GroupWise continues
to be the critical foundation for a wide variety of business solutions," said Stewart Nelson, vice president and
general manager, Novell GroupWare Division.

"As our core base of customers continues to grow -- attracted by GroupWise's Universal Mail Box, calendaring
and scheduling, advanced document management, workflow and Internet capabilties, and ease of use -- our sphere
of influence grows as well, driven here by other companies who see a substantial market opportunity in
GroupWise."

"Our strong partnership with Novell yields product solutions that our customers can deploy for business critical
applications," said Ronnie Ward, vice president Enterprise Solutions Division, Compaq Computer Corporation.
"With the launch of GroupWise 5, our customers will have an intranet-ready messaging solution that improves
worker productivity and enhances communications for businesses of all sizes. GroupWise 5, offering seamless
integration with the Internet, is a powerful product with a very promising future."

Compaq is one of a number of leading OEMs that are shipping GroupWise integrated solutions for their customers.
Compaq's GroupWise Starter Kit, a complete, expandable network solution, lets businesses easily deploy
networks running GroupWise.

Fujitsu, a leading Japanese OEM and systems integrator, will be shipping a customized version of GroupWise 5
with its hardware for the Japanese market, enhancing GroupWise 5 to work with popular Japanese software.
Fujitsu will also provide specific features demanded by the Japanese market, including shared team calendars and
schedules, bulletin boards, shared resource management, and integration with popular Japanese desktop software.

BDM, a systems integrator, will continue its ongoing relationship with Novell, as it leverages its expertise with
GroupWise to help its customers get the most out of their GroupWise 5 implementations. IBM, as well, is currently
shipping GroupWise 4.1 with its 300 series servers.

Independent software developers have also turned out in support of GroupWise 5, since GroupWise 5 offers an
open object API that third-party developers may leverage to build complementary applications using such
industry-standard tools as Visual Basic, Delphi and C/C++. Building on GroupWise's support for
industry-standards such as MAPI, ODMA and DDE, as well as the new GroupWise 5 development interfaces,
GroupWise 5 Object API (GWOAPI) and Custom 3rd-Party ObjectsT (C3PO), independent software
developers are now realizing new business from the growing demand for products integrated with GroupWise 5.

PUMA Technology is developing interfaces between several PDAs (personal digital assistants) and GroupWise 5.
IntelliSync allows users to synchronize, in one easy step, their GroupWise 5 appointments, contacts, and "to do"
information with handheld electronic organizers such as the U.S. Robotics Pilot or Sharp Zaurus. Puma's
forthcoming electronic data exchange software product supporting GroupWise 5 will allow users to create,
exchange and store personal information in an electronic business card format.

In a recent announcement with Novell and Xerox Desktop Document Systems, WhetStone Technologies detailed
the integration of its enhanced image viewing capabilities with GroupWise 5 and Xerox's image processing
technology, providing E-mail enabled image management capabilities to GroupWise 5 users.

Other third-party developers creating GroupWise 5-reliant products include Active Voice Corp., Applied Voice
Technology and CallWare, telephony vendors that offer a variety of unified-messaging solutions fully integrated with
GroupWise 5; Cheyenne Software, which offers software to let GroupWise users send and receive faxes from their
Universal Mail Box; Information Builders, which provides administrative and end-user reporting tools for
GroupWise 5; Quarterdeck Corp., which offers real-time document sharing and editing capabilities; Synaxis Corp.,
which offers software for GroupWise 5 to detect, diagnose and resolve E-mail problems before they affect business
communications; and Time Line Solutions Corp., which offers integrated project management for GroupWise 5.

Full details of the GroupWise 5 Third-party developer program will be announced prior to NetWorld + Interop on
September 17, 1996.
