About 33 percent of smartphone users 13 and up owned Android-equipped smartphones during the three months ending in February, further strengthening Google Android's position as the most popular platform, according to a report by metrics company comScore, Inc. released Friday.

That's a 7 percentage-point jump from the average for the preceding three month period ending in November and a 2.8 percentage-point jump from the three-month average ending in January. January's comScore report noted that Android's market share had eclipsed the market share of Research in Motion's BlackBerry for the first time.

BlackBerry lost further market share in the February report, dropping 4.6 percentage points from the three months ending in November, to 28.9 percent.

Meanwhile, market share for Apple's iPhone has remained essentially flat, rising 0.2 percentage points during the same period, to 25.2 percent. Microsoft's smartphones lost 1.3 percentage points, to 7.7 percent market share, and Palm lost 1.1 percentage points, to 2.8 percent market share.

The number of overall smartphone users 13 and up rose 13 percent in the three months ending in February compared to the three months ending in November, to 69.5 million people.
