This sounds like a great option Concierge arrangements are the future. Recently, we had my mother enter such a practice. It is a solo practice, with a single Internist running it. The guy is wonderful, gives her plenty of attention, we can reach him on his cell phone - or he returns calls within minutes. The notion that there should be no connection between the quality of care and the willingness and ability to pay is a completely socialist idea. It presupposes that attentive, personalized healthcare is not a service, but a right. Hey, everyone needs to eat, and we don't want to see people starve - but this doesn't mean that we're each entitled to dine every day in a $75 a plate restaurant. We absolutely do need a healthcare safety net, but it shouldn't be a Big New Caddy level of service; it should be an old Chevy. Btw, my mother's doc does not have 500 patients in his concierge practice, he has 200. I doubt he could have many more with the level of attention he provides. I believe he also has some patients outside this retainer scheme. Well, that's the history of Medicine - wealthier individuals used to pay the doc enough so that he could afford to help those less fortunate.
