I was pondering the same question, myself. The only other answer I
can come up with is that Schacker has been SOOO successful in his
region (Silicon Valley, etc.), that the only way to reward him is
to give him his boss's job and move Larrimore sideways within the
organization. In other words, it may not be that Larrimore has done
poorly, but rather that Schacker has done better.
