>> If you taught history, Ted, and you haven't read this, you don't KNOW American history.

He hasn't read a book since Jr. High school. You're wasting your time.

But People's History is NOT history. It is an anti-American opinion piece, totally undocumented. You'll notice there are no references or footnotes in the book, and Zinn disclaims the need by simply saying in so many words, "We don't really KNOW what happened, so I've chosen not to provide footnotes".

Very scholarly of the socialist genius.

Here is a great summary of the book:

". . . Zinn's books have been popular—particularly among young college students eager to hear an alternative to the sanitized versions of history taught in many high schools—they have not been favorably reviewed by most scholars. His most famous book, A People's History of the United States, is often dismissed as a fairly unsophisticated record of relentless exploitation of the downtrodden . . .

Michael Kammen finds that A People's History is “a synthesis of the radical and revisionist historiography of the past decade, incorporating many of the strengths and most of the weaknesses of that highly uneven body of literature.” Bruce Kuklick, meanwhile, considers the book a radical textbook and asserts that, as such, “its comprehension of issues is stunted; its understanding of materials is unnuanced,” . . .

"Mariel Garza accounts for the book's phenomenal sales figures by suggesting that “A People's History is a great example of product differentiation, entering underserved markets, and giving people what they want.”"

=======================

In short, a work of near-fiction directed at the weak minded and uneducated, designed to bash America from its inception. If he could read, I have no doubt tejek would love it.

Maybe there is an audiobook.
