American Apparel in trouble:

online.wsj.com

[Johnny: Perhaps too much expansion and declining interest in their product. It is not a clothing company as opposed to a life style company. They are selling an image and the image is passe. LULU will eventually suffer the same fate if it does not evolve faster. Here in Vancouver where LULU started it is already a trend on the way out. In other countries it is still new, but they need to come up with the next trend or find a way to extend the brand. Go back a few years and you will see the same effect in GPS, the Body Shop and the United Colors of Benetton. AAPL fall under the same category. I heard an analyst on BNN.CA come out and say it for once and point to the fact that lifestyle companies have lower multiple so that even though AAPL is priced at a forward P/E in the teens, it is still to high for a lifestyle company. ]
