These short sellers are happy camper today. They sell and I buy. Sony's CEO is quoted “Why would I make Apple the best camera?” Why? The answer is obvious Sony can not make the best quality camera with the best competitive pricing. Sony has to deal with its Japan plant issues first. What is the fuss!

OmniVision Off; Sony’s Stringer Hints At Apple Sensor Deal

Apr. 4 2011 - 9:21 am

OmniVision (OVTI) shares are trading lower this morning following reports that Sony (SNE) CEO Howard Stringer indicated that the company has received orders from Apple (AAPL) for 8 MP image sensors to be used in the iPhone 5. The current version of the iPhone uses sensors from OmniVision.

The blog Electronista reports that Stringer, in an on-stage interview with the Wall Street Journal’s Walt Mossberg at an event in New York’s Carnegie Hall on Friday, indicated that the company’s sensor plant in Sendai, Japan had been damaged by the recent earthquake, resulting in delays in shipments to Apple.

The Journal notes that early on in the event, Stringer joked about the irony of Sony supplying camera components to Apple. It “always puzzles me,” he said. “Why would I make Apple the best camera?”

OVTI this morning is down $1.84, or 5.1%, to $34.35.
