re solar <fickle nature of Government subsidies>

Lots of interesting choices, for various governments.

For instance, Japan and Italy both have huge government debt, and no domestic fossil fuels. So, can they afford their generous subsidies for solar and wind?

Japan's wind and solar farms, including offshore wind, survived the earthquake and tsunami, in shocking contrast to what happened to their nukes. China is out-bidding Japan (and everyone else), for fossil fuel assets, all over the world.

Italy gets most of its natural gas, and much of its oil, via pipelines running under the Mediterranean, from Libya. Those pipelines are shut down, and the Libya oilfields are a battleground. This wouldn't happen with solar.

As the world gets scarier, and resource wars become chronic, I think countries will pay up for secure safe domestic energy sources.
