John, I'm negligent in not reading C.S.'s works. God, didn't let eve off the hook. she was issued a punishment too in addition to death. Of course death and bannishment from the garden were not punishments after they ate of the tree of k of G&E. Death and banishment were actually a great blessing. Since God has a spiritual law of each kind begets after it's kind. Then Eve and Adam dying was a blessings. If they couldn't die then Seth their son couldn't die. And eventualluy one of their great grand kids (Noah) couldn't die. And we get to another in their family King David couldn't die. and Solomon couldn't die.... Then you get to Joseph and Mary couldn't die... the you finally get to Jesus and if He cannot die then mankind is doomed forever. So, "least they now eat from the tree of life and live forever..." God banished them from the garden and this was one of God's great knidnesses. Many times we don't understand what God is doing when it happens, but it actually is a blessing and we don't know it. Peace and productivity today.
