wolfdog, it would be naive to assume that putting in place a
made-to-order PC sales division is trivial. This is much more than
simply setting up a web page and letting the orders come in. There is
really a ton of infrastructure involved. Gateway pioneered much of
this, they're experts in this, and they still make mistakes, like last
quarter when they were left holding the bag with too much inventory. A
company coming in cold could stand to lose a lot of money before it
figured out how to do this efficiently. For this reason alone Gateway
might be an ideal company for somebody to take over.

A bigger company might also have brand recognition, true, but lets not
forget that Gateway sold over FOUR BILLION dollars in the first three
quarters alone, with the biggest quarter yet to come. This is not
Joe's Computer Clones operating out of some garage, Gateway is a major
player. What company wouldn't drool to get ahold of Gateways customer
base? A customer base which, in spite of a lot of negatives comments
here, is one of the most loyal customer bases out there.
