Austin will have one of the largest chip manufacturing complexes in North America. I do not believe TEL having trouble to deliver (somehow they always make things happen) but in case they do which I believe is unlikely LRCX should benefit. Samsung Keeps Growing – Now Hiring 300 Posted on March 31, 2011 by missionmortgage Samsung is hiring again. After hiring more than 600 employees for their Austin facilities last year, they announced efforts to bring on another 300, raising their total local employment number to roughly 2,000 employees. According to a story in today’s Austin American-Statesman, Samsung is primarily seeking process and equipment engineers and technicians as they work towards completing their expanded production facilities. The company will consider both experienced and entry-level professionals. Samsung’s growth is an incredible boost to the local economy. Once the new facility is completed and fully operational, Austin will have one of the largest chip manufacturing complexes in North America. And the $3.6 billion cost makes it the most expensive construction project in Austin history. Samsung’s total investment in the Austin area will top $9 billion since it’s first factory was opened here in 1996. More significantly, Samsung represents the largest investment by a company in the United States by a foreign company and their current expansion will further their lead over all others. A parallel story on www.macobserver.com today indicates that most, if not all, of the 300 new hires will be focused on supplying parts for Apple. Specifically, the website mentions that Samsung will provide Apple A5 chips and LCD screens for the iPad. The story references Cult of Mac writer Ed Sutherland who suggests that Apple will spend as much as $7.8 billion on components and supplies from Samsung in 2011 alone.
