Generally the use of the word "idiotic" to describe something indicates hostility towards it. Perhaps for you it has mathematical exactitude.

I suppose that there used to be exceptions to this subjective use of the word--for example there were the classifications of mental defectives that went from "moron" to "imbecile" and then to "idiot."

I think it would be best if you sold all your stocks and put the money in the bank as your wife suggests.
