MH...Good post, when you say: " worked in a risk review department in a major bank, one of the areas we did not review was the derivative area. some special department would calculate the banks true exposure on derivatives and we had to accept that number without question. and if the number turns out be wrong well then the S**** hits the fan."

You've really drilled into something here.

What your capturing is that Derivative constructs turn speculator bets on thier head. They introduce a different set of logics into the equation.

Those outside of the action must become cognizant of the difference. Speculators, make bets on or about other speculators. Bets are supposedly based on degrees of awareness about the conditions or status of what is being bet on.

Derivatives bring dimensionality to the Bet Equation, which one/some of the bettors may or may not, understand. This changes the landscape for speculators from single valuedness to multi valuedness. In the conversion of states, multi valuedness raises the level of awareness needed by both bettors performing roles of or as speculators making what was once simple, now complex because the identity of the single valued better is changed by the variables of the better whose discovered multivaluedness..

Speculators need to understand the evolution of this important information source, representing the breakthrough required; to move to Holistic understanding; Where Viewpoints and data become data as viewpoints.
Mr Pensinger,""The variables in the quantum wave equation are multivalued: for every value of x there are a multiplicity of corresponding values for y. Two different notions of identity are involved here, one simple and one complex. An entity with simple-identity, when in motion, carries very little holistic information about the system of which it is a part. An entity with complex-identity, when in motion, carries a large component of holistic information about the system to which it belongs." ....

Good luck.
