I don't really use stochastics to determine long- or intermediate-term trend of the stock. Usually I use trend following to determine the trend and use the INTRA-DAY stochastics to determine where is the entry point.

I agree with you that the prices are ultimately driven by earnings. And I also believe the trend of the stocks will also reflect the trend of the EPS. Therefore, both technical and fundamental approaches shall be acceptable.

On the fundamental side, CPQ had a record quarter. But the more important was how people reacted to the report. The price of CPQ droped after the report, didn't it? That IS the fundamental reason why PC stocks are not favored any more.
