Inode, I see a copy of his birth certificate. Legally that's good enough to meet the constitutional requirements. I don't know what the big deal is over looking for the original or whatever, unless you suspect the copy is a forgery.

Is not a birth certificate. It is a "Certificate of Live Birth". It does not provide ANY evidence that Obama was a natural born citizen.
It only provides evidence that certain family members made that claim, at a time when they would have been highly motivated to make such a claim regardless of whether he was born in Hawaii or not.
A birth certificate, OTOH, would show which hospital and the signature of the physician who delivered the baby, which WOULD provide evidence of his natural citizenship.
Look, I suspect as most people do, that Obama is a natural born citizen. But every week that rolls by without his proving it only fuels the speculation as to whether he is or isn't.
I understand the importance of following the constitution, but really, is the "native born" part of it so damn vital to the security and sanctity of this great nation that it warrants such an extensive investigation?
I just don't think that's my call or yours. The FF believed it was important, and Hamilton, in the passage I previously quoted, set out the rationale for it pretty succinctly IMO. It isn't to say that I agree with it or not, only that those are the rules by which we are required to play. |
