Vanni:
I'll be the first to admit that I am no deep thinker. (Coupled with that, my stock picking lately has been abysmal).
There are many on this thread that are a helluva a lot smarter than I am by virtue of their well thought out posts and right now I really can't add anything meaningful.
Some of us read analysts' opinions, stick their finger in the air and call their broker. Others read Ben Graham, David Dremen, Bill O'Neil, Peter Lynch, Bob Rosenberg, and others, use fundamental valuation techniques suggested by AAII perhaps, and they still get blindsided by exogenous factors, like deflation in Japan.
And what of the economic and currency mess in Japan and the Far East? How long can Fujitsu, Hitachi, and perhaps Maxtor (Korea) sell at or below cost as some are suggesting? What do we make of Samsung's expansion? How long will the deflation last? I don't have a clue to any of this. Perhaps you can enlighten me. I could go on and give my opinion about the failure of Japanese economic policies but so what?
What of WDC? Will they be able to buy the license to Big Blue's Giant MR technology? Dunno - but if so, they leapfrog the competition.
