Axion International Announces Expansion of its Manufacturing Capacity
Axion to Implement Various Expansion Initiatives, More than Doubling Capacity for Axon’s 100% Recycled Plastic Products
NEW PROVIDENCE, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Axion International (OTCBB:AXIH.ob - News), a leading producer of industrial building products and railroad ties made from 100% recycled plastic, announced that it will be implementing various expansion initiatives that will effectively double the capacity for Axion’s Recycled Structural Composites (RSC).
Due to the increasing number of contracts and market demand for its proprietary technology, Axion requested that the expansion at its manufacturing partner, Ultra-Poly Corporation, be implemented and it is expected to be completed by early May. As part of the expansion, the manufacturing facility will be implementing longer worker shifts, adding two additional molding machines, as well as dedicated bale-breakers and grinders to process the incoming bundles of raw recycled plastic material more efficiently for Axion.
"Expanding our manufacturing capabilities has been a major focus for Axion over the past several months,” said Steve Silverman, Axion’s President and Chief Executive Officer. “With our sizable recent influx of new domestic and international orders from countries such as Canada, Morocco and Australia, we are quickly adapting to our current sales orders and expect to be increasing our production requirements even further to meet the growing demand for our environmentally friendly alternative to traditional building materials such as wood and concrete.”
Marc Solda, Axion’s Executive Vice President in charge of operations, commented, “What this expansion also represents is a concerted effort on behalf of Axion’s management to broaden our network for sourcing high-quality plastic material from re-processors and recyclers. By adding dedicated bale breaking and grinding machines, Axion can now accept post-industrial and post-consumer plastics in larger quantity bales straight from municipalities and waste treatment centers, providing for a more diverse and streamlined supply chain along with greater cost efficiencies.”
Ultra-Poly is the largest re-processor of post industrial polypropylene and polyethylene plastics on the East Coast. With over 30 years’ experience, Ultra-Poly provides a cost-effective waste feed stream solution for its commercial customers, including Axion International.
"We are pleased to work with Axion as we implement various capacity enhancements for their manufacturing process at our facility,” said Alan LaFiura, co-owner of Ultra-Poly Corporation. “We pride ourselves on being a ‘one stop’ source for virtually all of our clients’ plastics needs, and look forward to working more with Axion as their technology grows in popularity in the United States and countries around the world.”
Axion’s RSC, developed in conjunction with Rutgers University’s Materials Sciences and Engineering Department, is inert and contains no toxic materials. It is impervious to insect infestation, will not leach toxic chemicals nor warp. Because it is lighter than traditional materials, transporting RSC is less expensive and reduces energy costs. In addition, RSC is completely recyclable at the end of its functional life.
