[Dec 3 vs. Nov 17]

Although Nov. 17 might be the date, I think Dec 3 (the ADSL forum) might also be a logical date for a deployment to be announced.
Judging from the topics and focus of the ADSL Forum on Dec 3 with WSTL, GTE, and BT among others, my guess would be that WSTL and GTE will announce something before the conference or possibly at the conference. Just a hunch, but a couple of points seem worth noting.

(1)Seems like they wouldn't attend such a conference unless they had something new to talk about. Why not wait a few weeks, and then make a big show or your plans after they are ready. Otherwise, just lots of uncomfortable questions for them to answer.

(2)The other RBOCs are definitely moving forward. GTE must be feeling a little heat be now.

(3)Biggest obstacles IMHO would be if the real problem for GTE is regulatory in nature, and they just have to wait until the legal issues are resolved, and/or still kinks to be worked out with the new chips.

Regards, Bret
