At the time, Dr. Krugman was particularly scathing of the successes achieved by Singapore and posited that it too will fall. Stumble it did, but look how it has risen, as last quarter's GDP growth was a stunning 23.5%. I feel this is due to good government, cultural/racial openness, many of the values that MQ talks of, high savings, obsessed focus on higher and higher output per unit of output, strategic thinking, ability to move out of old industries to new ones and a relentless pursuit of new markets, new ideas and dreaming the impossible.

I think Brazil, a much larger country of course, has all those attributes: plus some truly 'original' assets: I loved hearing Bossa Nova music pieces!
