Exactly. Which is why they are more efficient. Efficiency == Profits.

The Constitution gives the postal service a de facto monopoly on such delivery of mail. For anyone else to undertake such deliveries of mail, Congress would first have to enact legislation to permit it.

Yet, the USPS STILL cannot make money in spite of ever-reduced services and ever-increasing fees. The USPS is projecting a quarter trillion dollars in deficits over the coming ten years.

Not only could private enterprise do it better and more profitably, they could deliver better service. The USPS employs some 650,000 grossly overpaid people to deliver 4 pieces of mail daily to each address, generating gross revenue of $80 Billion/year. There is absolutely no doubt that UPS or FedEx could do this job more efficiency.

In fact, you have unwittingly posted a perfect example of a government bureaucracy that doesn't function. The topic has been discussed extensively, and analysts agree that private enterprise could run the USPS profitably.

Government is inefficient at everything it does. USPS is no exception.
