Back again -- Now some more technical stuff:

There have been questions in the past about focusing point source x-rays. Point source does not have to be focused. It uses a
contact mask and the whole area is flooded with light. However, a collimator could intensify the source light (sort of like light going through a magnifying glass) and JMAR and others are working on this for future point source systems.

My next question was - If a contact mask is used, aren't imperfections magnified? Answer - XRL doesn't have the cleanliness requirements or depth of focus requirements of optical systems because the wavelength of the X-ray is so much smaller. XRL has much greater process latitude. I asked about mask availability. I was told that would not be JMAR's problem -- it would be the responsibility of the chip manufacturer -- but the feeling was that if INTC or IBM needed masks, they'd find a way to get them -- probably by doing what IBM is doing now -- making them in-house. Another important parameter is the sensitivity of the photo resist. It is the opinion of some who have worked with JMAR's point source that resists are more sensitive to the JMAR source than optical sources. (I believe I was told that the sensitivity was increased by a factor of five, but I didn't get that down in writing. This is from memory, so don't hold me to it.)

They are still in the process of scaling up power, and today they were scheduled to make a milestone progress report to the CEO, so I don't know how that turned out yet.

Main thing to remember is that the Britelight technology that is behind all of this is a new technology unlike anything ever done before. That will be the cornerstone of a whole series of products to come in the future.
