PMS is right. I want to salvage what I can with my P4 system - figured the case is fine and probably okay with the PSU as well. That was until I discovered a MOBO class I was looking at required an 8 pin connector. After some digging - I realized either I need to get an older class MOBO or ditch the PSU. I probably will ditch it so that I can get a new fast system in that case, but will probably revisit and get a MOBO that supports the PSU.

I usually start with CPU first (as to what I am prepared to spend) then work backwards - what MOBOS will work (also based on features) then add in the case, PSU etc. Case issues - ie I want a case with 6 USB out at the front. Great, but does the MOBO have a header unit in the center that supports 6 additional USBs?

In your case, be VERY careful. If you go uATX, then the size of the video matters - tricky to get good small video cards to fit in the HTPC cases. Can't say that the spec sizes (dimensions) are good enough - might need to ensure the card says it will work in a uATX if a small unit is what you are aiming for.

HTPC - what OS are you going to run?
