I'm not sure why you say that. Shopping malls, like all other products, have a life cycle. They come and go. When they go, they go on the block.

Many of the malls were just built. In the past ten years, we so overbuilt retail in this country that now were swimming in the excess of it. Its not normal or healthy behavior.
