Dollar Falls vs Yen on Talk Japan May Help Banks The dollar fell against the yen, retreating from a six-month high, on reports that Japan is considering a far-reaching reform package to shore up ailing financial institutions. Traders sold dollars on concerns that the government might sell large holdings of U.S. bonds to raise funds needed for such a plan. That would be bad for the dollar since bond sellers would convert their dollar proceeds into yen.
