I'll take Bernie's credibility vs. Lee's anyday. Just look at the track record of performance over the last 5 or 10 years. GTE doensn't even come close.

Lee copycats everything Bernie does.

Bernie buys UUnet. Lee buys BBN.
Bernie buys fiber in QWST. Lee buys fiber in QWST.
Bernie develops terminology such as "global footprint". Lee does same.
Bernie offers bold plan for MCI from clutches of BT. Lee does same.
Bernie writes letter to Roberts of MCI. Lee practically copies letter.

Bernie and Lee are in two different categories of leadership and performance. How can you say Bernie has credibility of used car salesman when his 5 and 10 year performance puts Lee to shame.

Wcom's international strategy is just now beginning to hit. Bernie will make the synergies pay off. Bernie was willing to pay $51. Lee was willing to pay $45 cash. Bernie won for $6 more of stock.

5 years from now, Bernie's $6 more of stock will be worth more billions to Wcom than the $6 more cost Wcom now. Bernie beat Lee because MCI is worth $51 to Bernie because of greater synergies.

I can't understand how people defend Lee. His performance has been worse than Bob Allen's at AT&T.

I own Wcom. You own GTE. That says it all. Later.
