The notes payable are secured by Javaco’s inventory

How is inventory used as collateral? Wouldn't that encumber those assets and prevent any items from being sold?

For example: if Kidd had been successful in using his stock as collateral for a loan I can't imagine him being allowed to sell any of that stock unless the cash went directly to whomever held the note that was secured with that paper.

What am I missing?
