RE: Crude Priced In FX - Damned Speculators

All of this talk about crude prices in various coordinate frames and the evil speculators reminded me of a presentation given by Adam Sieminski to my energy geek group in Washington back in October '09 - not too long after most of the serious analyses of the '08 crude excursion had been completed by each of the major economic houses.

I recall Sieminski stating that there wasn't a price spike in the Euro Zone. I pulled the presentation from the archive. The discussion focused on speculators, a timely topic to reintroduce today. A quote:

Virtually every serious study ever published says that speculators add liquidity to markets and don’t set prices.

Also:

Why don’t speculators get blamed for low prices?

See especially Pages 26-30 for the discussion of speculation/manipulation Page 30 has the Euro adjusted WTI price.
