The sacred cow democracy must go. There is a way to solve the economic problems that lead to this crisis. Look at it straight in the eye and face the problem head on.
Take the pain in the chin, and do what is needed to do.

All democracies will fail because in a democratic system governments cannot execute the necessary painful strategy.
Democratic countries and their governments will go down with its populaces. All together clinging to their entitlements, acquired rights and dirty little secrets. And all along down hill singing the praises of democracy and its rule of the majority.

Democracies, owing to their rule of the majority, need to satisfy everyone to warrant and legitimate the power of the elected government. In doing so, the governments in democracies, dole rights and entitlements to all participants to get elected and keep themselves in power.

After a while, everyone in the country has a stake on the system. If a leader tries to change anything for the overall benefit of the society, there is no way it can do it because whatever it does, it touches an acquired right or an entitlement of someone. Result? Paralysis.

That explains Sven-Christer Nilsson failure. Consensual Sweden does not allow for a leader to act and execute an strategy. It needs to listen to everyone and take care of the whims of everyone.

The populaces agrees with government that there is something wrong, but it will pass. They have some intrinsic value that given the right to be on top and not go down.
It can be their superior government abilities. Their honesty, intelligence, hard working. It out there that there is some other countries being unfair to them.
