Largan to raise 2011 capex due to booming demand for smartphones in China (Largan's almost exclusively use OVTI camera chips)

Taiwan-based optical lens module maker Largan Precision expects its capex in 2011 to exceed its budget of NT$1.5 billion (US$51.4 million) set aside early in the year, due to significantly higher than expected orders for high-resolution lens modules for phone cameras on growing smartphone demand in China. The increased capex will hinge on received orders, the company said during an investors conference on April 20.

Largan released its first-quarter 2011 financial report, posting consolidated revenues of NT$3.512 billion, gross margin of 42.50%, net operating profit of 1.157 billion, net profit of 1.195 billion and net EPS of NT$8.91.

Of the consolidated revenues, 94% came from lens modules for phone cameras, 3% from digital camera lenses, and 2% from multi-function peripheral lenses.
