I had a very interesting Easter Sunday at Sam Houston Race Park. First of all, because of Easter, they did not have their usual two choices of lunch menu in the food court. All they had was wings, which I don't like. So, I was moderately hungry all day. That may be a good thing.
I won the first bet on live quarterhorses and the last two bets. The payoffs were small and, in one case, didn't even give me my money back. And those were the good times. I lost all six races in the middle. I had 4 photo finishes and all 4 went against me. I am usually the king of winning the undeserved photo finish, but the stupid cameraman had my number, yesterday.
Then, we moved downstairs for simulcast and I continued my losing ways. Finally, in the last race at the last track of the day (Emerald Downs in Seattle), I bet an exacta and a trifecta. A 24-1 horse I loved came in second and the payoff made up for all day's losses and paid a handsome profit, besides.
My Mother told me "you were really sharp today." I said, "I basically won one race out of about 25. I'm about as sharp as a ball bearing." <G>
A fun and profitable day, though depressing for a long time. |
