Pyslent, it's worth reading the full blog post I provided the link to, as it explains that what Apple is doing is not what people think they're doing. It appears that instead, they are simply downloading the locations of cellular towers that are in your vicinity, so that location services will work faster. The fact that a specific cellular tower appears in the database isn't proof you were ever within its range, as they download all the tower information for a fairly wide area each time, just in case you might need that info later on.
They also don't keep a log of every time you visit a location. Evidently, the consolidated.db file contains information only from the last time you were there. Moreover, there's no indication of how long you were there.
But that doesn't make for a very sexy story.
BTW, OJ lived in the same the area where those murders occurred, so all of the tower locations in Brentwood would most likely have appeared in his file, if he had had an iPhone. But that wouldn't have helped the prosecutors, since they wouldn't have been able to use it to prove that he had been where he had to be to commit the murders. It would have proved only that he lived in Brentwood, essentially, which they already knew. |
