Windows, from XP to 7, will NOT run from a removable drive.

However. . .

One can find instructions on how to edit a Windows CD or installation to run from USB. Or they can try USBoot.

P.S. If you do the work of imaging your system to a USB drive, Windows will display a black screen telling you why it won't boot. (I forgot the exact message, but the meaning's clear.)
