C2, it's questionable that BP caused the accident. BP is suing the blowout preventer company and apparently Halliburton wasn't doing their job right either. How about the government inspectors? Were they "doing a heckuva job"? Blaming BP is like blaming the parents who take their child in for brain surgery and the surgeon drops the scalpel. They hire expertise and trust that the professional knows what they are doing.
If you take your car to have the brakes fixed and you find you get unintended acceleration instead, into some people walking across a pedestrian crossing, how much responsibility would you think you should have?
If my car crashed into said people, I would be profusely apologetic, pay for ambulances, hospitals and sorting things out, but would then sue the company which did the faulty work.
The mass hysteria was environmental and oil ignorance and mania, anti-British xenophobia, "boot on the neck" nastiness, with greed and opportunism rolled in when the amount of loot to be had was seen.
I think I might have said, "Hey Obama you greedy loser, get a real job. Stop bombing wedding parties in Afghanistan. Spending opm on your own glory isn't work. Go jump in the lake, or Gulf of Mexico. See how you go at producing oil."
As Tony Hayward explained to the ignoramuses, the ocean is huge and the oil spill was small. It was obvious that it was never going to amount to much.
