Is there such a thing as a common law adoption where a person considers the child as being adopted and gives the child legal use of his surname. The child then considers himself adopted and uses the new surname as his own and the adult as his adoptive parent. Voila a common law adoption! Are there legally such things? in US law or even in shiria law being this may effect a muslim child?
