Please re-read my post ... you must have me confused with somebody thad doesn't know what they are talking about :) you might also try reading my posts starting at around #300
>Cost-conscious companies might do better with Novell Inc.'s IntranetWare for Small Business. At $350 for five users, it has basic file- and print-sharing, E-mail, Web access, and takes under 30 minutes to install.
Windows 95 does indeed do all of the above, for free. I didn't say that IntranetWare wasn't a better product. However, if he/she needs exactly what was written above, then hell-yes, WIndows95 is a better product.
No dedicated fileserver, no CNE required, no half-day-or-more to setup. Most 5-man companies I know of have things called budgets and are *VERY* concerned with ROI. I can absolutely do all of the above with the software that comes standard on Windows95.
With a 5-machine network, I also respectfully submit that performance won't be an issue to 99% of the businesses out there.
Furthermore, if it hadn't of been for defensive attitudes such as yours, then perhaps NOVL would have recognized the threat of peer-to-peer services from Windows-for-Workgroups and come out with a competitive product to squash it's enormous success.
Instead NOVL stuck its head in the sand and allowed the MSFT marketing engine to make their future product, WindowsNT the undeniable market leader. |
