NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 12, 1996--Sun Microsystems, Inc., announced today that its Sun MediaCenter(TM) servers have been chosen as the video server platform for a joint venture between The Williams Companies, Inc., and the Public Broadcasting Service. The joint venture, The Business Channel L.L.C., will deliver PBS's Business Channel programming to the desktop computers of Fortune 500 executives and managers. The WilTech Group, Inc., a subsidiary of the Williams Companies, is already using Sun MediaCenter 1000E servers in a related pilot project in Houston, Texas. Wiltech plans to deploy the Sun MediaCenter servers in up to 40 U.S. markets with Business Channel L.L.C. subscribers during the next 12 months. PBS's Business Channel currently delivers high quality education programming, videos, live seminars and videoconferences to more than 6,000 businesses. The on-line, interactive edition should be available by July 1997.
