to Form the Technological "Backbone" of "The Business Channel" On-Line Classroom

======================================================================

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 12, 1996--Sun Microsystems,
Inc., announced today that its Sun MediaCenter(TM) servers have been
chosen as the video server platform for a joint venture between The
Williams Companies, Inc., and the Public Broadcasting Service. The
joint venture, The Business Channel L.L.C., will deliver PBS's
Business Channel programming to the desktop computers of Fortune 500
executives and managers.
The WilTech Group, Inc., a subsidiary of the Williams Companies,
is already using Sun MediaCenter 1000E servers in a related pilot
project in Houston, Texas. Wiltech plans to deploy the Sun
MediaCenter servers in up to 40 U.S. markets with Business Channel
L.L.C. subscribers during the next 12 months.
PBS's Business Channel currently delivers high quality education
programming, videos, live seminars and videoconferences to more than
6,000 businesses. The on-line, interactive edition should be
available by July 1997.
"Facing a more complex and competitive global economy in the new
millennium, companies are going to need quick and easy access to the
latest information and training techniques," said Scott G. McNealy,
chairman, president and chief executive officer of Sun. "By using
Internet, satellite and Sun MediaCenter on-demand video technologies
to deliver this information directly to the desktop, The Business
Channel will make it easier and economical for companies to keep
employees abreast of the latest trends, techniques and news affecting
their jobs - no matter where they are located."
"The Williams Companies' alliance with Sun Microsystems will
enable The Business Channel L.L.C. to deliver an unprecedented
education and training solution to Corporate America," said
Keith E. Bailey, chairman, president and CEO of The Williams
Companies. "We chose Sun to support this venture because its
MediaCenter servers provide the most scalable and affordable
solutions for this project. Our choice of Sun builds on our existing
relationship with this respected company, which truly understands the
importance of partnership."
"We are proud of our technology partnership with The Williams
Companies and of the Sun MediaCenter's role in this unprecedented
public-private venture to build the technological backbone of The
Business Channel," said Anne Schowe, vice president and general
manager of the Interactive Services Group. The Interactive Services
Group, a division of Sun Microsystems Computer Company, is focused on
delivering a broad range of server-based digital media solutions to
media companies worldwide. Targeted market opportunities include
film and entertainment, broadcast television, advertising and
creative services and media and publishing repositories.
The Sun MediaCenter product line is one of the industry's most
scalable and affordable platform for network-based interactive video
in the enterprise. Comprised of the Sun MediaCenter 5, 20 and 1000E,
the product line builds on Sun's server, networking and client/server
expertise, and it features unique software that allow companies to
manage, distribute and integrate video as a common data type into
existing corporate networks. The MediaCenter systems are optimized
for continuous video delivery, provide a cost-effective platform for
the development and deployment of enterprise video solutions, and
scale easily from workgroup to enterprise performance levels.
