Eric, >> I hope Novell gets their NDS ported to NT soon and they also leverage this protocol for all its worth. They must prove to the market that they favor an "open" system. Netscape still believes all their applications are closed. This must change going forward. <<
Eric,
With all due respect, you don't "unnerstand"! It's not Novell who is inhibiting the porting. It's Microsoft. They will not release the API's (application programming interfaces) to Novell (nor anyone else). They want to hold it back until NT 5 so Microsoft can include thier own directory services and as usual, lock out the market.
As far as I know, Novell must reverse-engineer the code in order to port NDS to NT. This is another tactic that Microsoft uses in conjunction with "Freezing" the market until they are ready, thus effectively prohibiting any other company from competing.
You'll read the above "spun" fifty ways from Sunday, but no matter how hard the spin meisters try, the bottom line is the same, every time --

PS: For the silent lurkers wondering why I seem to be so bitter about Microsoft (note that I own THIER stock also, I'm still a capitalist <G>), go to my web page for a "succint" statement by me as to why. In addition, I was a beta tester for MSN, and quite frankly, I didn't like being "censored". Yeah, they deleted posts on me. As a matter of fact, I believe if you read. I think, either the Katt or Cringlely or one of those columns, the (current weeks) column talks about JUST THAT. Censorship on MSN.
Well, I busted thier balls on MSN, and I'll continue to do that here, usenet, replys to editors or wherever else.
Hmmmm... I think I'll add that "free speech ribbon" to my web page.. yeah... that's a good idea...
