Infestation of Western Pine Beetle is a direct result of not allowing fires in affected areas.

Infected and dead trees will dry out and burn, snuffing out most of the beetles before they can breed again.

Travelling through Western Canada and Colorado a few years ago, the amount of infected trees is staggering.
