I saw a documentary on working dogs during WW2 on the military channel.... At first when they started using them in the Pacific the handlers and dogs were sneered at by their fellow troops....that didn't last long and soon the troops were begging to have dogs with them when they went on patrols. I was really impressed when the handlers started rattling off endless stories of 'saved by the dog'.... I don't mind telling you I was (as Jorj says) misty eyed.....
