Au Contraire my reactionary friend!

There is a reason why 97% of all new computers sold DO NOT have Zip in them! Most people have little need for a device that holds more than a few Excel or Wordperfect files. And, some users do not trust saving too much valuable data on one source. 1.44 floppies are cheap because the manufacturing costs are practically nill these days. They have had years and years to develop techniques for building these things, thereby getting cheaper and cheaper.

10,000,000 Zips sold is indeed impressive, but compared to the installed base of all computers used in the world, its presence is a small, small percentage, and by no means a "standard."
