In a sense your right that the issue isn't whether to cut, because even many Republicans oppose cuts (just suggesting slower growth).

The issue is whether to damage the country with continued waves of vast spending increases like the Democrats want, or to exert some real control over spending like a faction within the Republican party wants (with the rest giving some lip service to the idea, and calling for "cuts" that are actually large increases, and which leave spending not far below the levels the Democrats want).

Dems want to cut the military budget and those things that benefit mostly corps

The defense budget maybe, but the Dems are all over subsidizing things that benefit well connected corporations.
